        In October 2024, IPANDEE, in collaboration with its partners, delivered the first solar-powered, green energy-integrated 5G base stations for Guangdong Mobile. The energy consumption of 5G base stations has been a major concern, primarily due to the high power consumption of CU/DU and AAU equipment, which significantly increases overall energy use. Compared to 4G base stations, the energy consumption of 5G base stations is approximately three times higher. Additionally, because 5G base stations have smaller coverage areas, achieving the same coverage as 4G requires at least three times as many 5G stations, further driving up energy consumption.

        To help operators reduce the energy consumption of 5G base stations, IPANDEE conducted field surveys and engaged in in-depth discussions with customers to better understand their needs and application scenarios. Based on these insights, we developed a green energy solution especially for 5G base stations that enables energy savings. This solution integrates IPANDEE’s AX650 PV adapter with the smart combiner box. An IPANDEE AX650 high-conversion-efficiency PV adapter is installed on each solar panel to convert the working voltage to -48Vdc that matches the base station power supply to power the load of base station, and then output it to the base station power supply after being combined by the smart combiner box.

        The AX650 adapter uses TI's DSP and two-way PLC communication, which can monitor and control the working status of the adapter in real time, and adopts a combination of multiple MPPT algorithms to achieve a MPPT efficiency of 99.8% and a conversion efficiency of more than 98%.

        To withstand the harsh environmental conditions in various regions, the IPANDEE AX650 PV adapter is rated with an IP68 protection level. All internal capacitors are ceramic, and the unit is fully potted with highly thermally conductive adhesive, ensuring reliable operation in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C at full load.

        At the same time, DC meters, 4G remote gateways, smart circuit breakers and other devices are equipped inside the smart combiner box, enabling safe, stable and efficient power generation of the entire system, and achieving remote monitoring and remote intelligent operation and maintenance.

        Finally, the solution was recognized by partners and operators. Following successful implementation, it provided 4 to 6 hours of photovoltaic power supply daily, significantly reducing the power consumption of the city electricity. This not only achieved energy conservation and emission reduction but also led to cost savings and improved operational efficiency for the operators.

        Currently, the scale of 5G users in China continues to expand. By 2024, the number of 5G users has reached 927 million, a year-on-year increase of 37.1%, accounting for 49.6% of the global 5G users. As of the first half of 2024, the total number of 5G base stations has reached 3.917 million. To help operators achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, cost optimization, and efficiency improvements. IPANDEE will continue working with its partners to enhance the customer experience through technological innovation and in-depth front-line application scenarios, as well as a full range of professional services. We will also strive to promote the integration of communication base stations with photovoltaic green energy, making the application of photovoltaic green energy in communication base stations simpler, more efficient, and longer-lasting. Over a 15 to 20-year life cycle, the green stacked solar system is expected to reduce base station energy consumption by 30% to 40% compared to the original annual consumption.
